the country is recognised throughout the world and is renowned for its
highly distinctive quality wines. Crisp and fruity Chardonnay and Sauvignon
Blanc, well balanced red wines from Pinot Noir, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignan
and Cabernet Franc.
About
Wines
are produced on both the North and South Islands. The 1970’s saw
major developments within the industry, and by 1980 there were about 5,500
hectares under vine, with almost half of the new plantings being on the
South Island around the town of Blenheim, which is the Marlborough region.
