Storage in direct sunlight will certainly spoil any wine, so it is important to find a suitably dark place, free of any vibrations. Frequent and rapid temperature changes can have adverse effects on wine so make sure the temperature of the storage place remains reasonably constant. The actual temperature of your storage place can be anywhere between about 5°C and 20°C with the lower end of the range being the ideal.

If storing wine more than six months, lay bottles horizontally to prevent the corks from drying out and letting oxygen enter the bottle.

Sparkling wines

If you intend to keep it for longer, we recommend you keep it in a cool dry place away from direct sunlight. Avoid sudden changes in temperature.

Champagne once chilled but unopened, should not be returned to normal storage for future re-chilling as the temperature changes experienced will put strain on the cork.
